Today, Black males have a 29% chance of serving time in prison at some point in their lives, Latino males have a 16% chance, and White males have a 4% chance.
Some would say it’s their fault. But the truth is that often times they are not doing anything wrong. Sometimes it’s a matter of going to jail or getting shot and killed.
If that were your choices what would you choose?
Of course, we must consider that many of the men and women who are in prison have done something wrong. But then we have to ask does the sentence match the crime? A sentence of 30 years in prison for carrying two ounces of crack. Is that an injustice to the person and our society? We could do better!
Remember every person that has been taken away from “normal” society (Jailed or killed) harms us all!
